Begues's burial grounds were built in the 30's, however, they were used for the first time after the Spanish Civil War ended. Found in a pine forest in a valley of Garraf's natural park, the graveyard could be decribed as a densely built, cold and enclosed space due to the choice of pavement and the disposition of the concrete niches.
The project intends to change this perception with a new take on the relationship between the interior of the graveyard and the exterior with the incorporation of new pavements, parterres, wooden benches and other urban elements that also have the objective of making the sequence of spaces more comfortable.
Volumetrically, the perimetral walls are cut in order to generate new paths and relations between spaces that respect the existing rituals within the graveyard, such as sitting to reflect, contemplate, meditate, pray and light candles before locking the gates.
